National Louis University provides campus housing just steps from the Michigan Avenue campus. Our housing community is beautifully furnished, loaded with exciting amenities, and located downtown near Chicago's South Loop neighborhood. This process is to sign up to live on-campus at NLU for 2024-2025, including Summer 2024, Fall 2024, Winter 2025, and Spring 2025.
We have transitioned the management of the housing process to a system called eRezLife. Thank you for your patience as we roll out this improvement to the housing experience. This new system will allow students to identify potential roommates, create roommate groups for whom they would like to live, and select a specific room as part of a new Room Selection Process. Students who choose not to select a specific roommate or a specific room will be assigned a roommate based on survey answers and assigned a room based on their application date, preferences, and availability. Students interested in selecting a room should plan to log in during the dates listed for Room Selection in the Housing Process Timeline.
Admitted students will need to have their NLU login credentials (username and password) to login to eRezLife, and all official NLU Housing and Residence Life communication goes to student NLU email accounts not personal accounts. If students have difficulty logging in they should contact their advisor or follow steps for resetting their NLU username and password. Students are responsible for checking their NLU email for communications and announcements from NLU.
Students who are interested in living on-campus in the University Center on the NLU floors must submit an application and acknowledge they read the housing contract and agree to the terms and fees. Students who may need specific housing accommodations must request those prior to the deadline. Keep in mind that, similar to when students sign a lease off campus, they must sign a housing contract each year they would like to request housing in the UC. The process starts in April of each year for the following Summer and Academic Year. Students must be registered for at least one credit hour at NLU to be eligible for housing. Once no longer registered as a student, individuals are required to move out of housing within 72 hours.
Housing is not guaranteed. Specific rooms are not guaranteed. NLU housing only contractually provides a space in housing, specific rooms are not guaranteed, and not receiving a specific room type is not a valid reason for cancellation after occupying a space.
There are often more applications than spaces/rooms available, so not every applicant will receive a room assignment. Students are encouraged to proactively explore other housing options in case they do not receive a room assignment in NLU housing.
Housing availability is on a first-come basis and is determined by the date you complete the housing process (application and deposit). Deposits are required for applications prior to room selection and room assignments for the Academic Year (AY). For students submitting applications just to be put on a waiting list or for an emergency housing assignment, no deposit is needed. Deposits are only for participation in AY room selection or to be higher on the list for AY room offers. However, should you be interested in housing after the deadline, spaces might be available as student’s plans change. Please contact the Office of Housing & Residence Life at housing@nl.edu.
Let us know if you are interested in housing by submitting a housing application, which includes reviewing the housing contract. Pay a $200 housing deposit to secure a space (Hope Scholars are exempt from paying deposits). Read and download the legal contract that gives terms, rates, and dates. The housing deposit has been decreased for 2024-2025 from $250 to $200. This is a non-refundable deposit that is added to your student account and put towards your student bill with the Office of Student Finance. Non-refundable means regardless if you receive a housing assignment, or not the deposit cannot be reversed or refunded. It remains on your student account as a payment toward your student bill.

National Louis offers three room types at the University Center. Quad Semi Suites where two roommates share a bathroom with two suitemates. Semi Private Suite where one resident shares a bathroom with a suitemate, and Apartments where four residents have private single rooms and share 2 bathrooms, a living room, and a kitchen. Once students have a confirmed room assignment, based on that room type, they will either have an option to purchase a meal plan or if in a suite-style room, they are automatically assigned the Basic 10 meal plan.
A meal plan can be used and renewed as frequently as needed. Meal plans will be charged to your NLU Student Account can be paid with excess financial aid funding or included in your student account payment plan. Once a meal plan is activated, it is active for the Academic Year and it cannot be canceled. Additional meal plans may be added by request. The Basic 10 Meal Plan is required for all suite contracts. Meal plans are option for Apartment contracts.
Meal Plans are not active between quarters. Make note of the following dates when meals are not available. On days when the dining center is open, but meals are not available, any remaining Flex Dollars, Cash, or Card can be used for payment.
If you choose to live in an Apartment, meal plans are not automatically included. You must choose to add a meal plan. Additionally, if you would like to visit the UC Dining Center and use a meal plan instead of cash or card, you have the option to select a meal plan as a Commuter.

We offer one Full Year (FY) Apartment contract from June to June. Students must move in June 2024, and the only room type available is the Apartment. If wanting to live over the summer in an apartment, but a different room type (SPS or QSS) for the Academic Year, those are separate processes that involve two applications. The other contracts are for the Academic Year which is September to June. Contracts or Summer-Only contract that is just from June to September.
Once contracts are signed, students are financially responsible for the room they are assigned. Housing contracts are not canceled, and there are fees associated with any early move outs. If you do not need housing from June to June or from September to June, but are only looking for housing for a shorter length of time, we are not able to accommodate. Once you sign the housing contract / agreement, should you not move in, you agree to submit a Housing Contract Cancellation Request and accept the associated non-appealable, non-refundable cancellation charges, which may include full charges for all housing and meal plan costs. This contract is set based on the 10-week academic calendar. Students in programs on a different calendar (11-week, 12-week, 16 week) should adhere to the move-out deadlines posted on the Important Dates page of the NLU housing website. You also agree that room assignments are based on availability, and if your preferred room option is unavailable, you will accept the assigned room type. Moving in early or not moving out by the deadline will result in a charge at a daily rate for the length of time the space is occupied, plus additional fees. Deadlines and a full list of housing dates are posted online. By signing the contract, you agree to the terms and conditions outlined and agree to all associated financial costs for the contract duration..
