Vote Absentee

If you meet the requirements, you may vote absentee By Mail or By Travel Board. You must submit an application, which must be received by the appropriate submission deadline (as stated in the following sections). Absentee ballots are counted first and generally are the first results reported on Election night.

Vote By Mail

Requirements - Vote by Mail

• Reasonable expectation of being absent from the county on election day during the entire 12 hours that the polls are open
• Confined to residence, health care facility, or a hospital due to illness or injury
• Caring for an individual confined to a private residence due to illness or injury
• Voter with disabilities
• Voter at least 65 years of age
• Official election duties outside of my voting precinct
• Scheduled to work during the entire 12 hours that polls are open
• Unable to vote at polls in person due to religious holiday
• Eligible to vote under the "fail-safe" procedures in 3-10-11 or 3-10-12
• Member of the Indiana National Guard deployed or on assignment in Indiana or a public safety officer
• Serious sex offender
• Prevented from voting due to the unavailability of transportation to polls

Application - Vote by Mail

Applications must be received in the Hamilton County Elections Office by October 24, 2024 (before midnight). You must submit an Application one of the following ways:

• Online: Use the online absentee application at https://indianavoters.in.gov/. This application will link to your Voter Registration Signature, and you will not have to print and sign the application.
• In Person: Obtain an application in person at the Judicial Center, Suite 106.
• Download:WE CANNOT ACCEPT ELECTRONIC SIGNATURES! You will need to print and manually sign the form. You can then submit it by mail, email, or in-person. See Digital Application Files for links and details.
• Phone: Call 317-776-8476 and make a request for an application over the phone or by leaving a voice mail message stating your name, address, and phone number.

Voting Process - Vote by Mail

After your application has been processed, you will receive a paper ballot to review for your selection and a ballot card to record your vote. Ballots will begin being mailed 45 days before an election. Once you have voted your absentee ballot, you can return your ballot by mail or return it in person. Either way, ballots must be received by the Election Office on or before election day at 6 PM.

• Return a Ballot in-person: You may hand deliver a ballot to the Election Office for yourself or a family member (spouse, parent, father-in-law, mother-in-law, child, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, grandparent, grandchild, brother, sister, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, uncle, aunt, nephew, or niece). If delivering a ballot for a family member, you will be required to fill out an ABS-19 affidavit for each ballot.
• Return a Ballot by mail: Mailed ballots will have the postage pre-paid and should be returned to us at:

Vote By Travel Board

Requirements - By Travel Board

If you are confined due to illness, the Travel Board can come to you, within Hamilton County. Confined voters are those who are either confined to their home, hospital or nursing facility.

Application - By Travel Board

The final day for the Election Office to receive this application is the Monday before the election, at noon. You must submit an application one of the following ways.

• Online: Use the online absentee application at https://indianavoters.in.gov/. This application will link to your Voter Registration Signature, and you will not have to print and sign the application.
• Phone: Call 317-776-8476 and make a request for an application over the phone or by leaving a voice mail message stating your name, address and phone number.
• Download: WE CANNOT ACCEPT ELECTRONIC SIGNATURES! You will need to print and manually sign the form. You can then submit it by fax, mail, email, or in-person. See Digital Application Files for links and details.

Voting Process - By Travel Board

After your application has been processed, a Travel Board consisting of a Republican and Democrat member will come to your location so you can cast your ballot. The Travel Board will be going out starting a week or two before the election.
