Civil engineers also plan and construct transportation systems, housing and other structures, aiming to minimize pollution and protect the environment.

When you major in classics and religious studies at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, you’ll study the languages and cultures of the ancient Mediterranean world and civilization’s major religions. Focus on one of three options: ancient Greco-Roman civilization, ancient Greek and Latin or the traditions of Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Buddhism and Hinduism.

This degree will prepare you to help people communicate, hear, and balance. After completing a graduate degree, students become a speech-language pathologist (SLP, speech therapist) or audiologist and help patients in medical and educational settings communicate. The elementary education (K-6) builds meaningful learning experiences in elementary education learning environments. In our program, you will engage in five field experiences in elementary schools and a student teaching semester. Upon completion of the program, you will be recommended for teacher certification from the Nebraska Department of Education. When you major in microbiology, you’ll study the life of bacteria, archaea, fungi, algae, protists and viruses. This flexible interdepartmental major prepares you for a career in health, biotechnology, industrial microbiology or environmental microbiology or for medical, dental or graduate school. We are the only university in the state to offer this major and provide opportunities for research experience with faculty across campus. This major is offered in the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources and the College of Arts and Sciences.

The music major is available as a Bachelor of Music (B.M.) or Bachelor of Arts (B.A.). The natural resource and environmental economics major concentrates on the business side of natural resources, including the legal, political, economic and social aspects of managing our land, water and air.
