UK Settlement Visa documentation checklist

Gather together all the original certificates, letters, statements, supporting documents, photographs and other evidence you can.

Make copies of all your original documents. Unless you supply copies and a return envelope UKVI may keep your original documents.

Applicant documents

Applicant’s current passport. This will be handed over when your fingerprints are taken for your biometric residence permit and will not be returned until the visa is granted or denied.
Printed application form (you must print this after entering your visa application information online).
The Visa4UK appointment confirmation letter.
Completed Appendix 2 (VAF 4A December 2013) financial requirement form.
Two UK passport size colour photographs of the applicant. See Passport Photo Guidance.
Original birth certificate of the applicant.
Original marriage certificate if you are married.
A copy of the national identity card of the applicant.
A certified translation of the applicant’s birth certificate if it is not in English.
A certified translation of the marriage certificate if it is not in English.
A certified translation of the identity card if it is not in English.
Contact details and credentials of the translator.
Original English language certificate IELTS CEFR Level A1 or higher if required.
Original tuberculosis certificate if required.
Applicant’s previous passport(s).
Original divorce (or death) certificate if previously married.
Certified translation of divorce or death certificate if it is not in English.
Applicant’s supporting letter.
Any other document that may support your application.

Sponsor documents

Original birth certificate of the sponsor.
Sponsor’s supporting letter.
Copy of the sponsor’s passport (all pages).
Original divorce (or death) certificate if previously married.

Financial evidence

Original bank statements.
Original payslips if using salary to meet the financial requirement.
Letter from employer if using salary to meet the financial requirement.
Documentation proving any other income sources you are using.

Accommodation documents

An official copy of the title register from HM Land Registry or the title deeds for the property or a letter from the mortgage provider.
Letter from the property owner, landlord or letting agency.
Original mortgage statements if the property is mortgaged.
Rental agreement if you rent the property.
Council tax statements and utility bills.
Property inspection report (I did not get this as I own my own property, but it may well help your visa application especially if the accommodation is shared or you have children).

Relationship evidence

Any documentation to help prove the relationship between the applicant and sponsor is genuine.
Photographs, annotate each photograph with the date and location.
Letters, E-mails, instant messages, telephone bills or call logs or any other evidence the applicant and sponsor have kept in contact.
Travel documents or tickets showing you have travelled together or to meet each other.
Bank statements, rental agreements, bills etc in joint names.
Documentation for any children you have together, copies of birth certificates, passports etc.
