FINDING THE NTH TERM OF AN ARITHMETIC SEQUENCE WORKSHEET

Questions 1-4 : Find the nth term of the following arithmetic sequences :

125, 120, 115, 110, …………

The 10 th and 18 th terms of an arithmetic sequence are 41 and 73 respectively. Find the n th term.

Find n so that the n th terms of the following two arithmetic sequences are equal.

The sum of n terms of an arithmetic sequence is 5n 2 + 2n. Find its n th term.

n th term of an arithmetic sequence :

Substitute a1 = 4 and d = 5.

125, 120, 115, 110, …………

n th term of an arithmetic sequence :

Substitute a1 = 125 and d = -5.

n th term of an arithmetic sequence :

Substitute a1 = 24 and d = -3/4.

n th term of an arithmetic sequence :

Substitute a1 = √2 and d = 2 √2 .

Substitute d = 4 in (1).

n th term of an arithmetic sequence :

Substitute a1 = 5 and d = 4 .

n th term of an arithmetic sequence :

Substitute a1 = 1 and d = 6 .

n th term of an arithmetic sequence :

Substitute a1 = 100 and d = -5 .

Given : n th terms of the two arithmetic sequences are the same.

Given : The sum of n terms is 5 n 2 + 2n.

Substitute n = 1.

Substitute n = 1.

So, the first term of the given arithmetic sequence is 8.

Sum of first two terms is 24.

First term + Second term = 24

n th term of an arithmetic sequence :

Substitute a1 = 7 and d = 10.
